All nine rooms are private and ensuite, with crisp white bedding, dark walnut, warm pooled light and blackout-lined drapes. They come in two types: six loft rooms for families and groups, and three Retreat rooms. Breakfast is included with every room.

Beds below, a sleeping platform above, and a ladder the kids will claim before you've put a bag down. Room for a family or a group of friends who would rather stay together than spread out.

Four — three beds below and a twin up in the loft. The flagship Konamori sleeps five.

A king and a twin — or three twins — plus the loft twin. Konamori adds a fourth bed below.

The Retreat · three rooms

The retreat rooms

Rooms on the lower and upper floors built for deep rest after a long day. No loft, no ladder, less to negotiate at six in the morning. The upper-floor River is the couples' double.

Sleeps
Two in River, the upper-floor double; three in each of the two lower rooms.
Beds
River is the king room; Waterfall and Alpine Lake take a king and a twin — or three twins.
Best for
Couples, and the grandparents on a family trip.

The nine

Rooms with names,
not numbers

Behind the beds in every room, an ink-wash landscape covers the wall edge to edge and gives the room its name — so you stay in Lanterns or Snow Monkey, not Room 4. The two colours under each are the room's accents, drawn from its painting.

Konamori

A snow-covered cedar forest in soft grey mist. The room that carries the lodge's own name, and the painting that explains it.

Bamboo

Loft · sleeps 4 · a king and a twin, or three twins, plus a loft twin

Stone steps rising through a misty bamboo grove. The one that feels like a walk you have already taken.

Lanterns

Loft · sleeps 4 · a king and a twin, or three twins, plus a loft twin

A mossy forest path with stone lanterns. Warm light in a wet green wood.

Lone Pine

A windswept pine over misty ridges. The most solitary of the nine, and the one people ask for twice.

Snow Monkey

Macaques bathing in a steaming onsen pool. Nagano's own, an hour and a half away, and the only room in the lodge that will make you laugh.

Pagoda

A pagoda rising out of pine-covered peaks. The quietest painting of the nine.

Waterfall

Lower floor · sleeps 3 · a king and a twin, or three twins

Water pouring over a stone gorge. Movement on the wall, stillness in the room.

Alpine Lake

Lower floor · sleeps 3 · a king and a twin, or three twins

A calm lake holding the reflection of mountains and pines. Lake Nojiri, fifteen minutes down the hill.

River

Upper floor · sleeps 2 · king bed
